Jenny recently wrote an article on daisychainbaby.co.uk about D-Teching your life :
“I love many aspects of the modern technological world, but times are very trying I find. At the moment I’m trying to get my business off the ground. I’m trying to keep on top of bringing up the kids (5, 12 and 16) (!!). Trying to remember to talk nicely to my lovely patient other half, and be equally as nice back. Trying to maintain some sort of a social life without drinking too much or even smoking! (Not a puff for 1 1/2 years now). And, on top of all this I’m TRYING to get to grips with technology: uploading and downloading; how to create and what to do with jpegs, psds and pdfs, photoshopping; being an amusing and savvy tweeter and facebooker! Arghhhhhhhhhh! So much of it is like learning a foreign language from scratch. Am I the ONLY eejit in the world who doesn’t know how to zip?…

This year the 4th annual Reducing the Impact of Textiles on the Environment (RITE) Conference will welcome the Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF)and its Ethical Fashion Source exhibition.
The two separate events will run alongside each other on Wednesday 6th October at Central Hall, Westminster, London and will spotlight – in one unique place – the issues of environmental sustainability and ethical fashion.
babyblack, together with our new sister company SUPERNATURAL kids clothing, has been chosen to take part in an ‘exclusive showcase of the very best designers and brands combining great design with sustainable sourcing’. The showcase is presented by EFF whose choice was based on the fact that we offer an ‘exemplary product and supply line’.
We’re especially pleased to be part of this brilliant event because the inspiration behind babyblack and SUPERNATURAL kids clothing came largely from attending the last two RITE conferences and several events run by the EFF. We therefore feel like we are partly the result of all their tireless hard work and commitment to encourage small business like ours and large brands like Marks and Spencer and Tesco to think and work ethically and sustainably.f
Lollibop was fab, in all ways. It was the first time we had all the babyblack and SUPERNATURAL kids clothing stock to present to the world – and we were thrilled (and not just a little relieved) by the reaction of the parents and children of Stoke Newington who were generous customers both with their kind comments and enthusiastic purchasing.
The sun shone brightly and everyone was in the mood for having a great time. There were touches of Glastonbury there in the attention to detail of content and presentation. Wonderful visions would drift by our stall in the form of one-off art-forms, costumes, characters (human and otherwise), and there was some fantastic music and performances coming from a lovely retro ice cream van just opposite us – whatever your age, there was something there to float your boat. Jarvis Cocker didn’t show up (I don’t think) , but there were some lovely tributes to his music which I tuned into from time to time. Lots of people came to our stall and had a bounce on the Hoppers (that is – space hoppers for little ones, ready for dispatch at the beginning of Sept – contact us if you want to know more;). My whole family, and some gorgeous friends came to lend a hand, so all in all it was a really enjoyable weekend.
Since then we’ve been getting ready to launch the Supernatural kids clothing website which will be up and running by the beginning of September. Also, a groovy fair trade shop in Brighton called … FAIR … are going to be our first retail outlet. FAIR is on Queens Road, the road you walk down as you head for the beach from Brighton station – its cool, stylish and fair trade, so definitely worth a visit.
July 16th and 17th
Looking for a weekend of groovy fun and entertainment? We’re heading up to Stoke Newington to take part in the Lolibop children’s festival (www.lollibopfestival.com). Not only will we be offering gorgeous, soft organic cotton, black baby playsuits, but we’ve also just had delivery of a new range of clothing for our sister label, ‘Supernatural kids clothing’. There’s dressses, T Shirts and trousers for 1 -4 year olds in lovely colours and again in soft, eco-friendly fabrics . It looks like the sun will keep shining for the weekend, so don’t miss out on this fantastic new event.
Thank you to all of you who visited us at our Paddle Round The Pier stand.
What a fantastic festival, perfect weather and a huge, really lovely crowd. For all those eager to get hold of their hoppers, please email us and we’ll let you know as soon as they arrive, around mid August.
This weekend we’re taking part in Paddle Round the Pier 2010, (or ‘Paddle’). It ‘s Europe’s biggest FREE charity beach and watersports festival, taking place on the beautiful venue of Hove Lawns – Brighton & Hove. It features the very best in water, street & urban sports, live music, kids entertainment, ‘have a go’ opportunities and much, much more – including ‘babyblack’, ‘Supernatural Kids Clothing’ and local toy masters ‘Daisy Daisy’. Also, look out for the introduction of the coolest running shoes introduced by barefootlondon. We wont give too much away, but as well as being an exciting new way of running and exercising, these shoes will bannish the Brighton-beach pebble hell … FOREVER:)
Paddle has always appealed to surfers and watersports enthusiasts. All the usual suspects, from surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, skating, windsurfing and free running will be there as well as new sports like Surf lifesaving, Streetball, mountain boarding and freestyle mountain biking.
With so much fantastic free fun to be had, along with stacks of great prizes, chances to try things for yourself, new bands to enjoy and mind blowing demonstrations to see, you’d be mad to miss it!
Paddle Round the Pier 2010 is set to be the biggest Paddle ever. And just because there’s loads of new stuff going on doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about old favourites like the Paddle Something Unusual or the Errant Pier to Pier races. And of course, you can expect our world famous title event – Paddle Round the Pier – and the gruelling 20 mile ‘Funky Puffin SUP Euro Enduro’ race.
So Aloha Dave Paddle … and Aloha all of you out there … see you at Paddle this weekend 3rd and 4th July.

The hottest day of the year, and even the England World Cup match couldn’t keep you away. Loads more fun to be had there than on the pitch though eh? We were so busy that we missed Mister Maker … gutted!
